Remove hawkers from Gulzar House to Kaali Kaman stretch
Hyderabad: Hawkers have been left in the lurch after the Hyderabad High Court asked the authorities to remove them from the Gulzar House to Kaali Kaman stretch.
The High Court issued orders on Thursday that vendors/hawkers must be removed from the Gold and Silver traders’ shops and be rehabilitated on the North-West or South-West areas or any other suitable alternative place.
These vendors were rehabilitated to this stretch after they were displaced following the Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP) picked up pace and tiles were laid at the buffer zone there.
Representative of Gold Traders and Proprietor of Lakshminarayana Jewellers Prabhu said that it was a moment of happiness for them and said that they had been opposing this idea of rehabilitation. He said that authorities shifted the hawkers/street vendors so unscientifically in front of their shops.
Sharing a copy of High Court ruling with Hans India he said that vendors and hawkers were directly affecting their business there. The authorities must have taken proper rehabilitation measures before the work started at the CPP project, he added.
High Court has asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), City Police Commissioner and authorities concerned to see that vendors are removed from the place and be given alternative space on other sides of Charminar.
It is to be noted that police officials in presence of GHMC officials, allotted spots to the vendors by carrying out draw recently. Gold Traders were protesting against this decision from the beginning. Officials from GHMC were not available for comment on this issue.
