Telangana Government's Rythu Bandhu catches Centre's fancy

Update: 2018-03-29 23:07 IST

The Telangana Government may be at loggerheads with the Central Government on several other issues, but there is one issue about which the Centre is appreciative of the Telangana Government. The Rythu Bandhu Scheme of the Telangana Government, under which, a financial assistance of Rs 4000 per acre would be given to the farmers at the beginning of every agricultural season, has caught the Centre’s attention. Under this scheme Rs 5685 crore would be spent covering 14.21 million acres.

The Centre has asked principal secretary of agriculture in Telangana Government to make a detailed presentation about the scheme. The official told the Centre that 7.2 million farmers have been identified  for the scheme.  According to sources, the Centre is planning to implement the same in the union budget next year.

"If Govt of India can emulate Telangana’s farm input assistance scheme, it will be ‘Kisan Kalyan’ for the farmers across the country. Delighted that Telangana’s pioneering welfare & development initiatives continue to inspire many state Govts & even Union Govt," KTR tweeted.
