Hyderabad: Government employees who excel in discharging their duties faithfully and achieving targets set in the implementation of state-sponsored flagship welfare and developmental programmes will get special recognition this Telangana Formation Day on June 2.  This will be in addition to annual increments.  The Telangana government will honour ‘best performing’ officials with promotions and felicitations this year.

A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a meeting held recently with state Chief Secretary SK Joshi as well as GAD (General Administration Department) and HRD (Human Resource Development) wing officials.   Irrespective of seniority, officials who have shown good results in the implementation of various schemes will be promoted.

All along, officials have been getting promotions after approval from the Departmental Promotion Committee, for which seniority is the main criterion. As a special case, this year ‘best performing’ officials will be picked up by the Secretaries and recommend for promotions directly to the government, an official explained.

The secretaries of various departments, mainly Irrigation, Rural Water Supply, Housing, Medical and Health, Panchayat Raj and Rural development, Education, Municipal Administration, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Police and all welfare departments - BC, SC, ST and Minorities have been asked to prepare a list of best performing officials engaged in the execution of developmental works at the field level.

Officials said that the chief minister was happy with the fast-paced execution of certain works, mainly those related to construction of irrigation projects, Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, two-bedroom housing for poor, establishment of residential educational institutions jointly by the education and welfare departments and successful implementation of the KCR Kits and other health schemes by the Medical and Health departments. The State Agriculture Department is also busy preparing the list of farmers eligible to get benefits under the newly launched crop investment support scheme.

The government has already announced special incentives to all Revenue Department officials for successfully completing the land ‘purification’ programme recently.   Just as best performing officials get promotions, every department will get special recognition based on sheer performance. The promotion list, prepared in consultation with the secretary and the head of the department concerned, will be forwarded to the CM and chief secretary for approval.

District collectors have been asked to identify the best performing officials at mandal and district headquarters so that they can be felicitated on Telangana Formation Day, officials said.
