Sudden downpour throws normal life out of gear in Hyderabad
The sudden downpour and thunderstorms have brought Hyderabad city to a standstill for at least two hours on Friday as roads were jam-packed with water and traffic.
Several places witnessed motorists wading through knee-deep water, trees uprooted and even power disruptions.
The maximum rainfall of 52.5mm (5cm) was recorded in Khairtabad followed by Nampally at 38.5mm (3cm).
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the reason for the unseasonal rainfall was cumulonimbus clouds or thunderclouds which can produce hail, thunder and lightning.
The IMD stated that Saidabad and Asmanghad got 32mm of rain, Khairatabad’s Srinagarcolony 31.3mm, Ameerpet and Maitrivanam received 26.5mm while hailstorms were also reported at Trimulgherry, Yapral, Suchitra and Bowenpally.
Emergency relief teams were pressed into service to ease the traffic and remove the uprooted trees and clear the waterlogging.
A weather warning has also been issued by the IMD for the next two days that thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places across Telangana.
