Villagers mistake Russian national for thief, attack him

A Russian national was attacked on Friday night in Bhiknoor of Kamareddy district after he was mistaken for a thief.

The Russian, identified as Alexei Olegv who is from Moscow, was on a world cycle tour and was passing through Telangana when the incident took place.

Olegv, so far visited 30 countries and was on his way to Shirdi via Hyderabad.

Due to the heavy rains on Friday Enroute Bhiknoor, Olegv was erecting a tent in a paddy field. Upon witnessing this, the landowner Narsareddy questioned the cyclist in Telugu. Unable to communicate the situation, Narsareddy mistook him to be a thief and hit him with his flashlight on the jaw resulting in it being broken.

According to the police, the cyclist had a fracture of his right jaw and also suffered injuries on his face. Villagers meanwhile took him to the police who shifted him to the Kamareddy district hospital for treatment.

Olegv might require a surgery for the broken jaw and is expected to be in the hospital for another five days.
