As the Telangana government is looking towards the revival of the twin-tower project at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH), the pending issue of constructing a new building at the health facility could take shape in the coming months.

The OGH has 500 beds for surgery, orthopaedic and general medicine departments but the infrastructure has become weak. Fearing harm in case a portion of the building collapses under its own weight, the healthcare workers at the hospital have been holding a silent protest for the past 80 days.

The Health Department has set up plans for four state-of-the-art hospitals in four directions of the city including the health towers at OGH a part of the ‘package’ of four hospitals for which the estimated budget for construction of is close to Rs 1,000 crore.

Department officials are considering the possibility of raising funds for the new hospital projects from private lending agencies and even approached the Union Ministry of Health, urging them to support the project.
