Ration portability giving good results: Civil Supplies Dept
Hyderabad : Civil Supplies Department efforts appear to have worked. Ration from anywhere (Portability) state wide gained huge success. Officials have received huge response more than expected from ration cardholders as the portability is very helpful to beneficiaries. The number of Card holders who took commodities by portability is in lakhs.
In Telangana state wide 2.75 crore beneficiaries are benefitted with ration from anywhere (Portability) as they can get their ration from any ration shop, which was introduced by Civil Supplies Department from 1st of this month. This policy has turned as a gift to the poor people. With the implementation of ration from anywhere state wide beneficiaries are using it fully.
Till now, from 1st to 10th in 10 days… out of 17,023 ration shops state wide portability transactions were done in 13,082 shops and 5,44,378 people have taken ration. Hyderabad recorded highest transactions of 1,16,632; next are Medchal 83,057; Ranga Reddy 43,381; Nizamabd 29,252 and in Warangal 28,944 portability transactions done.
For providing better and rapid services to Food Security Card holders Civil Supplies Department is providing ration commodities from 1st to 15th of every month. In Hyderabad as there are large numbers of card holders and portability transactions are also high the date of getting ration is extended i.e. card holders can get ration from 1st to 20th of every month. In other district it will be as usual i.e. from 1st to 15th.
After EpoS came into implementation 12 to 15% of beneficiaries are not taking ration commodities, i.e. every month near about 70 to 75 lakh families are taking ration. Out of 85 lakh families, 52.57 lakh have (71%) have already taken their ration in this month. In Hyderabad only, more than one lakh portability transactions are done.
Portability has increased competition between dealers also. The dealers are competing to give more commodities to the beneficiaries as who supplies more ration will get more commission. In past beneficiaries had to wait for the dealers, now the scenario has changed, the dealers are waiting for the beneficiaries to come and get commodities from their shops. Clear change in dealers about time maintenance and approach towards the card holders has improved. Shops are now opening early at 6AM. Beneficiaries are opting for going to the ration shop where improved services are available.
Response beyond expectations: C.V. Anand
Commissioner for Civil Supplies C.V. Anand said that state wide portability has received huge response from the card holders which is beyond their expectations. We are very happy that more than 5 lakh transactions are done through portability state wide in span of just ten days after the implementation on 1st of this month. This policy is very helpful to the people who migrate to urban areas in search of work. The number of transactions in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal is clear evidence of this success.
This policy has brought revolutionary changes in public distribution system. Now there is different situation prevailing. Previously cardholders used to wait for the commodities, now the dealers are waiting for the beneficiaries to take commodities. Dealers are competing for providing better services to the card holders. All measures are been taken prevent technical problems. Every shop is allocated 15 to 20% extra stock for the portability transactions. Keeping view that in Hyderabad there are more number of card holders and portability transactions ration shops will supply commodities to the beneficiaries from 1st to 20th of every month. In other district it will be completed by 15th of every month.
