Bhongir ropeway put on backburner

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Tourism Corporation’s (TSTDC) proposed plan to construct a ropeway across the Bhongir Fort has been put on hold. It would take atleast six more months to start the process. 

According to officials, the scorching summer is said to be the reason for putting the plans on hold. The TS Tourism Corporation had proposed to have a ropeway across the Bhongir Fort, aimed at showcasing the rich heritage for tourists.

The Fort, which is about 45 km away from the city, spread across 40 acres, comprises of enticing monolith mountain, strong stone walls, tough arches etc. The artistic structural engineering of the Fort had always been an attraction, and the government had proposed to set up a museum, park, sound and laser shows, restaurant and knowledge centre, with Fort as the centre. 

At a height of 600 metres above sea level, Bhongir Fort presents the beauty and elegance of the construction. Government had proposed to develop facilities with Rs 100 crore. Located between the Golkonda and Warangal Fort, the Bhongir Fort has immense historical significance, said the official.

The State government has been developing Yadadri temple on a big scale and the officials expect more tourist influx to the Fort with the development activities since the temple is just 12 km away from the Fort. A senior official said the department had taken up repairs for boundary wall and steps with Rs 2 crore. 

For construction of ropeway, land acquisition was taken up at Survey number 57 and 58 at the nearby place. The place has been famous for rock climbing and mountaineering to train the aspiring youth involved in trekking.

Speaking to The Hans India, TSTDC MD Manohar said that since the summer had started and the site being a rocky area, the workers would not be available for taking up the works. Similarly, the rainy season too is not conducive to take up these works. He also said the project,whichis being taken up on public private partnership model, would take some more time for getting materialised.
