KTR launches lakes' development programme

Hyderabad : Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao formally launched the lakes development programme at Neknampur here on Friday.
 
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Rs.441 crore was allocated for beautification and development of several lakes and water bodies across the State. The GHMC prepared an action plan for lakes' beautification in Hyderabad and 40 lakes were shortlisted in GHMC and HMDA limits for the purpose.  He informed that an amount of Rs. 21.26 crore was allocated for beautification and development of Neknampur lake.
 
KTR also appealed to the local residents to actively participate in lake protection, maintenance and other works.
 
The Minister informed that GHMC Additional Commissioner Bharthi Hollikeri has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Lakes and Beautification project. In addition to the Rs.441 crore for lakes development, Rs.100 crore was sanctioned for development of Gandipet and HMDA has been entrusted with the job of developing Gandipet as a tourist spot.
 
With regard to treatment of sewage, the Minister said that every day 1150 MLD sewage was generated in the city. Of this, 670 MLD is being treated and efforts are being made to set up more Sewerage Treatment Plants before releasing the same into water bodies. He said the State Government was taking up the development of 46,000 lakes under Mission mode. He said that the government was very particular that there should not be any type of constructions in these areas under any circumstances. He directed the officials to take the responsibility for the overall development of the lakes.
 
KTR directed GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy to ensure that apartments with more than 100 flats set up STPs in their ventures. The STP cost should be borne by the builders.
 
GHMC Mayor Dr. B. Rammohan, MPs Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and Ch. Malla Reddy, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, MLA Prakash Goud, GHMC Commissioner Dr. Janardhan Reddy, HMDA Commissioner Chiranjeevulu and senior officials of various departments were also present.
 
The Minister, along with Baba Fasiuddin, concerned Corporator and various public representatives have participated in the various programmes held at Borabanda where the Minister has announced sanction of Rs. 10 crores for development of Sunnam Cheruvu.
 
KTR also announced that taxes would not be revised for the next three years in new Municipalities in the State.
