Prevent irregularities in voter lists: Congress to CEO

Update: 2018-04-14 05:36 IST

Hyderabad: A delegation of Telangana Congress Election Commission Coordination Committee led by its chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy met Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana Rajat Kumar on Friday and urged him to prevent irregularities in the preparation of voter lists.

The delegation included G Niranjan, A Shyam Mohan, B Kamalakar Rao and others. They told the CEO that Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) were either not available or not functioning effectively and were very often susceptible to influence by the ruling party leaders.

They demanded that this system has to be improved. “There have been instances where the Election Returning Officers, named in the list provided by the CEO, have not been functioning or some of them have been even shifted to Andhra Pradesh. The list of deleted names and additions were not supplied along the draft electoral rolls even though the final electoral rolls have been published for the 83 rural ACs. The list of deleted names should be made available to districts,” the delegation demanded.

The website of the CEO has not been updated with the final electoral rolls so far. The Election Commission told in the past that the list would be updated by the date of notification for Panchayat elections. In the past, there have been many instances where the applications made for enrolment, shifting etc. have been kept pending for a prolonged period. The EC should update the details immediately, they demanded.
