GHMC to act tough against those throwing debris in nalas

Hyderabad : The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to impose heavy fines on those people who are throwing construction debris waste in nalas, lakes etc., The GHMC has also threatened to seize the vehicles which ae being used to carry debris.
 
GHMC Mayor Dr. Bonthu Rammohan held a meeting with the higher officials in this regard on Tuesday and reviewed the situation. The Mayor said that around 2,000 tons of C&D waste was being generated in a day in GHMC and surroundings. As of now there are no provisions to curb the menace of C&D waste. However, the GHMC has decided to bring the construction debris under the purview of Solid Waste Management and the State Government would be requested to issue a GO in this regard.
 
GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that Delhi, Nagpur and Ahmedabad cities are having C&D disposal mechanism and the same would be emulated by the GHMC. He also said that from now on separate charges would be collected to lift construction debris waste.
