Telangana govt bats for NIMS facility

​Hyderabad: The Telangana government will pitch for locating the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bibinagar. With the panel appointed by the Centre is likely to visit the state this month, the NIMS facility which is under construction at Bibinagar will be showcased as the most suitable one for institute to the visiting team.

Availability of large area of land, easy connectivity from Hyderabad and several surrounding districts and already built-up basic infrastructure to kickstart the medical and diagnostic services are some major advantages with Bibinagar facility. Already the government has pumped in nearly Rs 150 crore into the construction of this five-storey building with a built-up area of 7.8 lakh square feet.  

Compare this with other sites among the erstwhile Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Medak and Warangal districts that will also be shown to the delegation. Land availability and starting from zero means construction would take at least three to five years before the facility becomes operational.

It is learnt that the Central panel would be shown various sites along with Bibinagar and finally the government would propose the Bibinagar hospital. NIMS Bibinagar is a 800-bed hospital out of which 200-bed facility (cellar, ground floor, G+1) is being built in the first phase set to be fully complete in three months. Rest of the 600-bed facility would come up in second, third, fourth and fifth floors.

While the structure is almost complete, creation of facilities in each floor were to be taken up in the second phase. According to senior doctors, if the Centre finalizes this location necessary modifications have to be made in each floor accordingly.

According to Dr D Raja Reddy, former director at NIMS during 1990-1993, Bibinagar scores over other locations in Telangana for establishing AIIMS, simply because of already procured large area of land, built-up infrastructure, located in city periphery so that in future it could even cater to its eight million population and counting.
“AIIMS Delhi has accommodation facilities for over 1700 PG doctors pursuing various specialties. 

Bibinagar hospital has large area of land and hence constructing new accommodation for doctors, nurses and students will not be a problem. Procuring large tract of lands at another location is a big challenge and bound to get stuck in legal hurdles and other issues," he felt. MP Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud, who pursued for AIIMS in Telangana with the Centre since 2014, echoed similar sentiments.

The MP said that they would bat for Bibinagar for the establishment of the premier institute before the Central team.
