Karimnagar: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday called upon the people to fight against Prime Minister Narender Modi for not linking the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) with agriculture and increasing the minimum support price for all crops.

The Chief Minister was speaking during the launch of Rythu Bandhu scheme here at Shalapally Indira Nagar in Karimnagar district on Thursday. Calling upon the people to fight against the Prime Minister, Chief Minister said that the MPs were fighting in Parliament and the people should also fight for linking the MGNREGS with agriculture. He said that the State government had already passed a resolution in the Assembly demanding that the Centre link MGNREGS with agriculture.

He said that the scheme should be in such a way that half of the money should be paid by the Central government and half by the farmers. He wanted the farmers to applaud as their consent for urging the Centre to link MNREGS with agriculture.

The Chief Minister said that the Centre should provide MSP for all the crops. He said that the government should at least increase the MSP by 1/4th of the existing price. Presently, if the MSP is Rs 1,500, the Centre should increase it to Rs 2,000. The Chief Minister said that the government should prove agriculture as festival and not as a burden.
