Telangana Congress asks President to save democracy in Karnataka

Hyderabad : Telangana Congress on Friday asked the President of India Ramnath Kovind to take steps to safeguard the democratic principles and to uphold the sanctity of Constitution in Karantaka.
 
A delegation comprising of AICC Secretary R.C. Khuntia, CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir and other leaders submitted a memorandum for the President to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
 
"The Indian National Congress, Telangana are deeply disturbed and pained to watch the developments in Karnataka state post elections held on May 12. Election results declared on May 15 have not provided a clear cut majority to any single political party contested in the elections. Hence, the Congress and JD(S) formed a Coalition to provide a stable government and submitted the list of 117 MLAs, more than the required number to the government, to the Governor of Karnataka," they said in their memorandum.
 
The Congress leaders alleged that the Governor has colluded with the Bharatiya Janata Party to subvert the democracy by inviting the BJP leader with only 104 MLAs to form the government and administered the oath of secrecy. "In doing so, he not only undermined the dignity of his high office but also acted in an unconstitutional manner. Blatantly partisan and authoritarian act of the Governor of Karnataka violates the principle of democracy.  This dangerous precedent strikes at the very heart of vibrant Indian democracy and portends grave consequences for all forthcoming elections," they said.
