Orientation Program on Smart City Mission concludes
Hyderabad : Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana organized an “Orientation Program on Smart City Mission with a focus on Urban Infrastructure”, sponsored by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India. The program was attended by Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Engineers, etc. from for Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation.
The Valedictory Function of the Orientation Program was organized today. B P Acharya, Special Chief Secretary and DG of Dr MCR HRD Institute, who was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function, gave away certificates to the participants.
B P Acharya said that while water supply management is of great importance, it does not receive the importance that it richly deserves by the functionaries of municipal administration. He called upon the need for dedicated staff in order to address the issues relating to operation and maintenance of efficient water supply. He stated that quality of water should be free from bacteriological contamination and turbidity. Continuing his address, he said that Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation has got at its disposal a whopping Rs. 1000 crores for the smart city project which is a great opportunity to for the Corporation to conceptualize and execute a number of innovative facilities, including the efficient management of water supply.
Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Commissioner VP Gautham said that smart city does not mean merely the application of new technologies. “The focus should instead should be on understanding the ground realities and finding enduring solutions to the genuine problems of people. “In this scenario, the technology should be a means to an end rather than an end in itself”. He stated.
Professor Pandu Ranga Rao, former Professor, National Institute of Technology, Warangal said that tap water, rather than canned water, is rich in terms of minerals. He, therefore, underlined the need to create awareness among people about the benefits of drinking tap water.
Professor Deepa Nair, Head, Centre for Urban Development Studies & Course Coordinator welcomed the gathering and also proposed a vote of thanks.
