Hyderabad: A duty doctor of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences was  attacked on Tuesday night by a group of people who were disappointed over the death of their family member. The junior doctors of the hospital took out a protest rally to Punjagutta police station and lodged a complaint.

According to police, Aruna (46), a resident of Uppal, died of respiratory complications on Tuesday night. This angered her relatives, who tried to vent their anger out by beating the doctor. Dr Irfan of Department of Rheumatology, who was attending to Aruna, was attacked by the angry mob. With a fear, he ran out of the hospital. The visuals of him chased by a group of people have been recorded by the CCTV cameras.

In a complaint that Irfan filed with police, he stated, “Aruna was admitted in AMC with deteriorating health condition. And, every day and we explained her condition to her family. She died due to declining oxygen saturation. After explaining this to her family, they started hitting me, due to which I had to run to escape from them.”

However, the deceased woman’s son K Eshwaraiah too lodged a police complaint alleging that the hospital’s security staff had confined and manhandled him. Speaking to The Hans India, S Ravindar, Punjagutta Inspector said, “We have received complaints from both parties, and based on their complaints two cases have been booked.
