Congress leaders going overboard irks Khuntia

Update: 2018-06-02 09:15 IST

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress affairs in-charge RC Khuntia expressed his dissatisfaction over the posts by party leaders in the social media welcoming Ghulam Nabi Azad as in-charge of the State party activities even before the party high command made official announcement regarding the same.

This took place in a meeting of the organising committee of the Praja Chaitanya Bus Yatra on Friday. The committee met under the leadership of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy to discuss the schedule of the fourth phase of the Bus Yatra and changes required in organising it.

According to sources, Khuntia, who attended the meeting, expressed his unhappiness over the posts in the social media welcoming Ghulam Nabi Azad. Speculations are making rounds in the social media that Khuntia would be replaced with Azad as Telangana Congress in-charge. These speculations gained support after Kerala’s former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy has been named as in-charge of AP Congress.

A few party leaders went a step ahead and started to welcome Ghulam Nabi Azad to take care of State affairs. In the organising committee meeting, Khuntia reportedly said such posts were a humiliation to him. “I am not so eager to continue as the in-charge.

But at least, let the high command to make an announcement,” he said.  Meanwhile, the organising committee of the Bus Yatra elicited opinions of party leaders on the Bus Yatra. The leaders told the TPCC that public meetings being held as part of the Bus Yatra had been casting a burden on local leaders. An alternative should be found for the public meetings, they felt.

Some leaders suggested that it would be better to hold meetings from the open top of the bus. Meetings of the Yatra should be held at the mandal headquarter level to cover maximum number of people. The members of the committee came to an understanding that the next phase of the Bus Yatra should be held after Ramzan.
