Scientist arrested in Hyderabad on charges of sexual harassment

A scientist was arrested by the Osmania University police in Hyderabad on Saturday on charges of sexual harassment.

The accused, Dr. K Bhaskarachary is a Grade E scientist and Ph.D. supervisor at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN).

According to the reports, he was already under suspension and was a departmental facing inquiry after a written complaint was sent to NIN Director Dr. R. Hemalatha on May 10.

Based on the complaint, a high powered committee was constituted to probe the matter and Dr. Bhaskarachary was suspended.

The girl student hailed from West Bengal and is pursuing a Masters in Science (Applied Nutrition) at NIN. Following the charges, the scientist was booked under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
