GHMC to plant 40 lakh saplings this year

Hyderabad : GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to plant 40 lakhs saplings under Telangana Harithaharam programme this year by involving RWAs, NGOs and others.
 
The GHMC nurseries will be supplying saplings at free of cost. Of 40 lakh saplings, 35 lakhs are being planted with the help of NGOs and remaining 5 lakhs are being taken up by the GHMC officials.
 
The Commissioner appealed the corporate and private companies to join hands with the GHMC for providing tree guards under CSR. The details of specific tree guards, their rates and other information can be obtained from the GHMC’s website.
 
He also appealed the corporate companies and NGOs take up Central Medians maintenance. The GHMC is having 526 open places and action plan is being prepared to take up massive plantation on these open spaces. The GHMC has taken up plantation in the last 2 to 3 years where more than 90% survival rate has been observed, several other measures are also being taken care to ensure cent percent protection of the plants for the project.
