Warangal city development confined to foundation stones: Congress

Update: 2018-06-13 05:03 IST

Hanamkonda: Swachh Bharat programme by Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has been limited to just campaigning with no ground work, alleged district Congress president Naini Rajender Reddy.

Poor sanitation conditions and clogged drains in the residential colonies have been troubling the citizens. The problem has become severe with the onset of the monsoon. A brief rainfall was making the streets flood with drain water, he complained.

Rajender Reddy along with a large number of leaders and public had visited residential areas in GWMC 31st division on Tuesday as part of his padayatra programme called `Mana intiki Rajender Anna’. He completed his first leg of the yatra that covered five GWMC divisions.

Speaking to the press on the occasion, he said the GWMC Mayor and the local MLA along with the ruling party corporators were found to be making tall claims on making Warangal a clean and smart city. But the ground reality was much different.

During the visit to the colonies in five divisions, the residents have complained that the garbage remained where it was, and the drains were choked. The condition of the roads in the colonies was too awful for words. The GWMC dug up roads and drains but works were not completed, Rajender Reddy complained.

The residents were becoming the victims of accidents as they were falling in the trenches. Many requests by the Opposition parties and the public to expedite the works have remained unaddressed, the Congress leader lamented.

He said that the Mayor and the MLA have laid many foundations stones for road and side drain works. But there was no progress at all. The Mayor and the elected members of the ruling party should quit their indifferent attitude at least now and launch the works, Rajender Reddy demanded.

He informed that his padayatra’s next phase would be resumed after Ramzan festival. In the next phase, 20 GWMC divisions falling under Warangal West Assembly constituency would be covered.

City Congress president K Srinivas Rao, corporator V Srinivas, the party leaders T Venkanna, S Kumar Yadav, K Ravali, K Kishan Kumar, N Laxma Reddy, B Sarala and others were present.
