Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a rowdy-sheeter who had tried to set a shop on fire was critically injured when the fire set by him resulted in an explosion, at Alwal on Tuesday. The incident happened at around 4:18 pm.

The injured person, identified as Naveen Yadav, was rushed to a nearby hospital. According to sources, Naveen Yadav demanded a shop owner, Shyam, to pay a ‘mamool’ of Rs 10,000. When Shyam denied to pay the money, the irate Yadav resorted to put the shop on fire.

Speaking to presspersons, Shyam said, “I was not present in the shop when the incident had happened. Naveen Yadav had called me and demanded to pay Rs 10,000 monthly as mamool, failing which he threatened to burn my shop. My shop worker had called me and told me that Naveen poured petrol and tried to set fire.

Then I asked him to rush to the police station to lodge a complaint.” He added that Naveen has been harassing his fellow shopkeepers in the locality to pay the ‘mamool’. “I paid small amounts for several times, but I cannot pay such a huge amount every month,” he said.

The act of Naveen pouring petrol into the shop and the explosion was recorded in the CCTV surveillance system installed in the shop. A fire tender was rushed to the spot to contain the flames.
