Warangal: The TRS, which promised 12 per cent reservations to Muslims, has deceived them, alleged Congress MLC Md Shabbir Ali. The four per cent reservations offered during Congress rule in the past helped many Muslim students to become doctors and engineers and pursue higher studies. But Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who promised 12 per cent reservations during elections, has forgotten after coming to power, he alleged.

Ali along with the party working president Bhatti Vikramarka, former chief whip G Venkata Ramana Reddy, Waqf Board former chairman Khusru Pasha and others attended Iftar, hosted by the district Congress president N Rajender Reddy here on Thursday.

The leaders appreciated the district Congress president for hosting Iftar for the past 17 years continuously. Hosting Iftar for Muslims during Razman season was an indication of communal harmony, Ali and others said.

The city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari attended Iftar in Warangal and said Iftars were a social necessity for a healthy society. Social reformers like Jyotirao Phule and BR Ambedkar have also stressed on the need of conducting Iftar to achieve Dalit-Bahujan-Muslim unity, he noted.

When Ambedkar was denied drinking water at a hotel, a Muslim cleric Moulana Hazarat Mohin invited him to his house and hosted Iftar and thus created a new trend. Iftars would serve to eliminate social barriers as all would come together irrespective of their social and financial status, Srihari said.
