Complete multi-purpose complex works: Congress to TS govt

Update: 2018-06-23 05:47 IST

Warangal: The city Congress leaders demanded that the State government complete the works of multi-purpose cultural complex in Warangal at the earliest.

According to city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari, in 2010 the then Chief Minister Y S Rajashekara Reddy laid the foundation for the cultural complex (mini-Ravindra Bharati) at Pochamma Maidan in Warangal. At that time, he sanctioned and released about Rs four crore towards its construction.

Later, in the first quarter of 2013, after the complex works started former Minister Basavaraju Saraiah laid another foundation stone. The government planned to complete the works by December 2013 and inaugurate it in the same month for the public use, he said.

But even after five-years, the works are not yet completed. Bushes were growing on the foundation and the pillars erected were becoming weak as they were being exposed to weather, Srihari told The Hans India. There were accounts on the expenditure of the funds, he added.

He along with a group of Congress workers staged a demonstration at the complex site on Friday demanding that the State government look into the matter and revive the construction works. Urgent measures have to be taken to complete works at the earliest, he added.

Srihari said that the government after launching the works proposed to name the cultural complex after noted mimicry artiste Nerella Venumadhav who passed away recently. “It was the desire of the artiste to see the complex completed in his lifetime and many times he told this to leaders here,” he said.

But sadly, he passed away without witnessing its completion, he said and added that the government should name the cultural complex after Venumadhav so that it serves as a venue for the artists in the district to showcase their talents. “It would be a great tribute to the mimicry artiste,” he added.

Congress workers would stage series of protests if the government fails to revive the construction of the complex as soon as possible, Srihari warned. The party leaders Ch Venkateshwarlu, Md Ayub, P Narender, Jannu Sudhakar, Erra Madhu and others were present.
