Seychelles president gifts gaint Aldabra tortoises to Hyderabad zoo

As a gesture of friendship, Seychelles president Danny Faure, who is on five days state visit to India has gifted a pair of giant Aldabra tortoise to Hyderabad zoo.

The giant Aldabra tortoise, which are endemic to the east African island nation, are aged about 20 years, weights around 120 and 150 kg and have the ability to live for up to 200 years. The tortoises were handed over to Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad director Sidhananda Kukrety and Curator Shivani Dogra by Seychelles Botanical Garden CEO Raymond A Brioche, Zoo Officials said here.

Along with other top officials, CEO of Seychelles Botanical Garden also visited Hyderabad zoo and appreciated the authorities for the hygiene and cleanliness of the zoo.

The Hyderabad zoo authorities thanked Brioche for gifting Aldabra tortoises to the zoo.

In 2010, Seychelles had gifted two giant tortoises to Shanghai Zoo in China, while another pair was presented to Guangzhou Zoo in 2014.
