300 kg ganja seized; one held

Bhadrachalam: In a major drug haul, nearly 300 kg of ganja, in sealed packets, was seized by the police here on Monday. According to Bhadrachalam Circle Inspector of Police P Satyanaryana Reddy, a TATA Indica car loaded with 300 kgs ganja, in sealed packets, which were being transported from the neighboring State of Odisha to Hyderabad through Bhadrachalam was seized by the police. 

Acting on a tipoff, the police conducted an intensive vehicle checking drive at a point on the Kunavaram road on the outskirts of Bhadrachalam. During the checking, the smugglers, sensing trouble, tried to flee the spot but accidently hit the road divider. However, the police took one of the occupants of the car into custody while another managed to escape, Satyanarayana Reddy said.

The seized ganja packets were worth approximately Rs 1.5 lakh and the arrested was identified as Lakshman Rao, said the Circle Inspector. Sub-Inspector Mahesh and other police personnel took part in the operation.
