Warangal: The footage of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras has become extremely crucial in crime investigation, Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said. Inaugurating the CCTV camera network at Kasibugga’s business corridors here on Wednesday, he emphasised the need for widespread use of CCTV surveillance to keep crime at bay.

“Our emphasis is on crime free Warangal which is second largest city in the State. Be it industrial development or sprouting of IT companies, everything depends upon law and order of that region,” Ravinder said.

CCTV plays a vital role in preventing crimes as its footage establishes the identity of the criminals, he said, further elaborating the uses of the third eye surveillance. There are quite a few instances in which even the complainants or their family members were caught on the wrong side of the law due to the CCTV footage, he said.

So far, the Commissionerate police have brought 605 villages out of a total 625 under the CCTV surveillance, he added. The onus is on people to complement the police department’s efforts, he said, appealing to all sections of the society to be a part of social policing.

Vartaka Sangham president Krishnamurthy, general secretary Sadanandam, corporator Bayya Swamy, ACP R Prabhakar Rao, Inspectors Ch Ravi Kumar and M Ravi Kumar, sub-inspectors Srinivas and Venkatakrishna were among others present.
