Resume construction of school buildings under GWMC: Congress
Warangal: The construction of new school buildings under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has been going at snail’s pace, alleged the city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari.
According to him, as many as 20 government schools have been selected for the construction of new buildings under Smart City Mission. But due to the indifferent attitude of the State government and the legislators, funds were not released as per schedule.
Srihari on Monday visited Government Primary School at Warangal Fort area (Middle Fort), where the students were forced to attend classes in the shade of a trees outdoors. Speaking to the press on the occasion, he said it was sad that the contractor stopped the works due to lack of funds.
Nearly one year passed by since the local MLA K Surekha laid foundation stone for the works and the works were stopped after pillars were raised. It was because the government has been diverting the funds meant for the construction of school buildings.
The remaining 19 schools under the GWMC, where new buildings were proposed, were also in the same condition. The government must immediately ensure release of funds and resume the construction works, he demanded.
