Students demand new school building
Hanamkonda: A large number of students of Mandal Praja Parishad School (MPPS) Gurijala in Narsampet, along with parents and villagers demanded the district administration to take measures towards construction of a new school building.
They arrived here on Monday displaying banners and placards that read ‘Save our school-save our lives’ and staged a demonstration at Warangal Rural district collectorate in Hanamkonda. The students were accompanied by the members School Management Committee (SMC) and Village Education Development Committee (VEDC).
They submitted a memorandum to District Collector M Haritha in support of their demand. Speaking to the press on the occasion, VEDC chairman M Ramulu said the school’s strength, which was just 13 a few years back, was now reached nearly 300. But due to lack of classrooms and dilapidated condition of the existing school building, the students were suffering. Sometimes the pieces of cement plastering from ceiling were falling on the students in the classrooms injuring them, he said.
Ramulu said the issue was taken to the notice of MP A Seetaram Naik and MLA D Madhava Reddy several times during the past four years but to no use. District Collector Haritha, after interacting with the students and the villagers, has promised to sanction a new building with 10 class rooms.
DEO K Narayana Reddy, responding on the protest by the students and the villagers, said a proposal for the construction of a new building was made last year. He said he would speak to the state civil works wing of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and see that the works would soon be started.
