Peddapalli: Joint Collector Vanaja Devi informed that arrangements were made for distributing commodities under public distribution system (PDS) through rations shops for public convenience and urged the people to co-operate with the officials during distribution.

She held a press meet at her chamber on the distribution of PDS commodities as the ration shop dealers across the State are on strike. The JC said there are 413 ration shops across the district, out of which 94 are under city limits and the remaining comes under village panchayats. 15 self-help groups and 19 ration shop dealers paid demand drafts for getting stock to run ration shops.

MEPMA staff will distribute stock at rations shops in cities, while women associations will do it in villages. Training will be given to these members.
In cities special centers were set up to distribute stock and in villages the stock will be distributed at VO office or in panchayat buildings or in community bhavans.

Show-cause notices were issued to dealers, who did not paid DDs and necessary action would be taken against them as per the instruction issued by the State government along with taking back weighing machines from them.

Steps were taken for transporting stocks at the earliest to ration shops by appointing more number of route officials. From July 5 to 10, stocks will be available at all ration shops and the address of ration shops will be announced to the people through publicity.

Joint Collector Vanaja Devi urged the media persons to give wide publicity about the address of ration shops so that people in the city can reach them easily to get commodities from rations shops.

APMs, VROs and VRLs were appointed at every ration shop to identify the real beneficiaries and tight police security will also be arranged at the rations shops to prevent untoward incidents.

District civil supply officer Rehman, district civil supply manager Abhishek Singh and district public relation officer G Veeraiah were present in the meeting.
