Round-table conference deplores move to abolish University Grants Commission

Nalgonda: A round-table conference was organised here on Thursday on the proposed move of the Modi government to replace University Grants Commission with the Higher Education Commission. It was jointly held by the Teachers Union leaders from School Education to University Education at the Lecturers Bhavan here.

World Federation of Teachers Union Secretary M V Gona Reddy, Professor Narender Reddy and Reader Venu Sunkoju spoke extensively on the subject. All the delegates unanimously deplored the Union government for departing from democratic norms. The move to constitute Higher Education Commission was aimed at politicisation of education sector, the speakers felt. They demanded that the UGC should not be disturbed at all. 

The conference unanimously demanded that the government drop the move to abolish the UGC, Local government vocational college teachers Ashok Reddy . Singam Srinivas, Yadagiri and Venkateswarlu, Vijayakumar of Save Education Committee, Prabhaker Reddy of TRSMA, Somaiah of DTF, Narender Reddy of STU, Danda Venkatramredy of Library Association  and others participated.
