Kothagudem: Mathematics is considered the most difficult subject for many a student. For tribal students the subject is the toughest one. They are securing good marks in all subject, except mathematics.

Last year, nearly 800 students failed in the subject in various schools across the Integrated Tribal Development Agency in Bhadrachalam. It showed that the students considered mathematics a scary subject.

When most of the students of class X failed last year in mathematics, teachers were blamed for it. The Project Officer had issued memos to the headmasters and teachers, asking them to explain the reasons for the poor results.

The officers and the Project Officer held several review meetings with the teachers in the tribal schools. The meeting discussed the failures of the teaching methods. The Project Officer, after discussing the issue with the teachers, decided to introduce a new method of teaching mathematics.

Tejvath Ramulu, a teacher in Narayanraopet under Dummagudem, came to the rescue of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA). The ITDA officials, after going through the book “Cheyutha” (assistance) decided to introduce it to help the students learn fundamentals in of the subject.

It had been introduced as a pilot in a school at Narayaraopet last year. The officials decided to introduce the book in all schools from this year Commissioner for Traibal Welfare Christa Swafford said the book would be introduced in all the Bhadrachalam ITDA schools. It would be distributed to students studying in class VI to class X. The book helped the students to a large extent. Not less 50 per cent of the student passed in the tenth class examinations this year.
