Osmania University to go in for online valuation of answer scripts
Hyderabad: For the first time, Osmania University will be conducting online evaluation of answer scripts for one of its courses. It will make a shift from customary practice of spot valuation for MBA students, who would be writing their second semester exams from July 10 onwards.
Nearly 15,000 students from nearly 110 colleges are set to appear for the second semester exams. Varsity authorities will have to scan answer scripts and give coding before taking up evaluation process.
Considering each student has to write five subject papers, the total number of answer scripts would be 75,000. Since some students would be writing first year supplementary papers, the total number of answer scripts that have to be scanned would be over 85,000.
Elaborating details, Vice-Chancellor Prof S Ramachandram said that they have decided to take up the pilot project of online evaluation with the forthcoming MBA second semester exams. He stated that they would analyse and assess the challenges, if any, in the implementation part and decide on how to extend it other courses in the varsity.
Meanwhile, a delegation from varsity would visit Maharashtra to study the process being implemented there and come out with a model to adapt here, he added.
It may be mentioned here that OU announced its intentions to go for online evaluation in the future following fire accident at a spot evaluation centre recently. Nearly 9,000 answer sheets were gutted in the tragic incident.
Kotla Sudhir, chairman of MBA College Managements Association in Telangana welcomed the decision. He said that going online would mean answer sheets would be safe and secure and correction process would become a lot more easier.
Dr S Chandramouli, principal of St Xavier’s PG College, Gachibowli, said that exam results would be normally declared in 45 to 60 days after completion of exams. Adopting technology in evaluation process will prove beneficial, he said.
Meanwhile, N Hanuma Reddy from Vardhaman Engineering College, that also offers MBA course, said that some autonomous colleges have thought about online evaluation method earlier. He said that scanning and coding of answer sheets is a big task, but correction process would become simpler.
