CBI ex-chief calls for enhanced Minimum Support Price
Nagarjunasagar: The development of farmer is the indicator of nation’s development, opined retired CBI official VV Laxminarayana. On Monday, he toured Nagarjunasagar and visited Vipasyana Meditation Centre, Vijayavihar and Nagarjunakonda.
Interacting with media, he urged the Central government to take necessary measures to increase the Minimum Support Price for farm produce.
Irrespective of purchasing agency, either government’s procurement centres or millers or other persons, famers must get fair MSP to their produce.
In this connection, government should take initiation for the welfare of farmers, he opined. He urged the government to extend the same 60: 40 per cent ratio of expenses that are being spend by Central and State governments for welfare of famers and also for payment of MSP.
He requested the Centre to link food for work to agriculture sector to relive farmers from financial burden and also to make agriculture profitable. He expressed his concern over the pathetic condition of tenant farmers and advised the governments of two Telugu-speaking States and Centre to take necessary measures to give new lease of life to them.
He also expressed his displeasure over the improper implementation of GOs at grassroot level. He said eradication of corruption was mandatory in the interest of nation’s development.
The former CBI chief informed that so far he has toured six districts in Andhra Pradesh and after completing tour in remaining districts of AP, he would meet Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with farmers’ delegation to bring his observations to the notice of Naidu and later would announce his political move.
