Hyderabad: Heaping praises on engineers working in various government departments in the State, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday exhorted the engineers to rededicate themselves to the development of the State and serve their best for persistent growth. To mark the Engineers Day at Jala Saudha here, the Minister paid rich floral tributes to the unsung engineer in the combined State Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur.

Speaking on the occasion, the Irrigation Minister said Nawab Ali got parallel name as that of Mokshagundam Vishweshwarayya by constructing notable and noteworthy projects in the erstwhile Hyderabad State. He also appreciated that the role of engineers in the projects was invaluable and great. Nawab Ali Nawaz was noted for construction of irrigation projects and well-known structures in Hyderabad State, the Minister said.

On achieving the statehood, the Telangana government had announced to celebrate the birthday of Nawab Ali Nawaz as the State Engineers’ Day. He also recalled his services and those of other engineers who were involved in the construction of Nizam Sagar project, which was considered the biggest in the world. For that, Nawab Ali and others had to keep away from their families and took horses to reach the project site and living in tents. “With the same spirit, our engineers in various departments have been working day and night,” he appreciated. Harish Rao also said some of the women engineers were playing a pivotal role in the construction of Kaleshwaram and other projects in the State.

“It is great to see that women engineers are involved in the project works even at 11.30 pm and able to send me photos of the project works even at midnight at 12 am and 1 am through WhatsApp. This shows their efficiency and commitment for the State development,” the Minister said.

“Though it was not possible to use one tmc ft waters to 6,000 acres earlier, now our engineers are successful in distributing waters for farming. I have recognised their efforts for using one tmc ft water for irrigating 13,000 acres under the Nizam Sagar, 12,000 acres under Nagarjuna Sagar and SRSP Pochampadu 11,500 acres.”

Harish Rao further said the engineers adopted on-and-off method and tail-to-head method to succeed in their efforts to irrigate crops using one tmc ft water. Our engineers are involved in land acquisition and coordination with other departments for speedy completion of the projects,” he added.
