Filth rules the roads in Gadwal
Gadwal: With recent heavy downpour of rains in Gadwal district, the roads and streets in Gadwal municipality have got inundated with rain water. The blocked nalas have lead to the overflow of drain water and littered garbage along the road side is washed on to the roads leading to stinking of roads and streets in various wards in the Gadwal municipality limits.
According to Sudharkar, a resident of Gadwal, the municipal authorities have literally failed in clearing the garbage on time. They are also not clearing the drains and nalas regularly because of which during heavy downpour these nalas and drains get clogged up and lead to overflow of drain water.
In some low lying areas, the condition is very pathetic as the stinking drain water enters into the houses and the residents are just left helpless. “The municipal authorities have become the most corrupt agency in Gadwal.
They are more interested in collecting commissions from contractors and others rather than serving the people. In fact it is a curse on Gadwal people as no official takes it seriously to keep the municipality clean and green,” said Sudharkar.
With stinking smell and littered garbage everywhere on the roads, the municipal authorities have not even bothered to take the cleaning drive after the inundation of the roads. This clearly shows the apathy of the municipal authorities as they have miserably failed to implement the Central government Swatch Bharat mission in the district.
With all the streets and wards of Gadwal municipality submerge and covered with garbage and mud, it has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Adding to the misery, pigs are wandering freely on roads have further made the situation worst and it is causing a serious health hazard to the residents as it may lead to outbreak of diseases.
Particularly, the vegetable market area and some of the streets in the surrounding wards have been filled with heaps of garbage. The authorities have long forgotten to desilt the drains in this areas because of which the drain is overflowing.
In some areas the drinking water pipelines have been damaged and the drain water is being mixed with the tap water. With officials are least bothered to repair the damaged water pipelines the residents are forced to drink the dirty water and many are falling ill.
“The water pipelines have been damaged in many places. The children are playing with the water leaking at the damaged pipe lines. Some residents are filling water from the damaged pipelines,” said Bhaskar, another resident of Gadwal.
“There is no one from the government to take necessary damage control measures. Both the leaders and officials are overlooking the matter and behaving with utter neglect. At least now they should open up their eyes and take corrective measures or else the people will teach them a lesson in the upcoming elections,” he added.
