30 sheep run over by lorry

Nagarkurnool: The shear neglect of a lorry driver has crushed a heard of sheep killing 30 of them on the spot and wounded many others in Nagarkurnool district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred near the Palam Agriculture College on the road connecting Nagarkurnool and Bijinapally during the early hours. According to Krishnaiah and Srisailam, the witness to the incident, the driver was driving the lorry at high speed, ploughed the vehicle into the herd of sheep moving on the road.

As many as 30 sheep were crushed to death on the spot, while many others broke their limbs and injured severely. “The lorry was moving at a very high speed and the driver was unable to control the speed rammed plough into the herd of our sheep. We have lost valuable sheep worth more than 5 lakh,” said a weeping Srisailam, one of the owners of the sheep. 

The sheep owners Krishnaiah, Anjanielu, Srisailam and Mallaiah are from Maganoor village of Bijinapally mandal. They usually take their sheep to long distances for grazing them and later they return to their native place after spending one or two months in different places.

“We usually take away our sheep to faraway places in search of greener pasture to graze the sheep. And later we return to our native place. However, with this incident we have lost our valuable sheep and incurred huge loss,” informed Mallaiah, another sheep herd owner. 

After learning about the incident, the Bijinapally police took the lorry driver into custody and promised the sheep herd owners they will be compensated for their loss.
