Hyderabad retains ODF status

Hyderabad : The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been re-certified as Open Defecation Free city.
 
Hyderabad was certified as ODF in the month of December 2017. As per the norms, the ODF recertification happens every 6 months and GHMC has successfully recertified as Open Defecation Free city.
 
 The GHMC took several initiatives to get recertification. It includes imposing fines from the defaulters for Open Defecation and urination. From April this year till now, the GHMC has collected Rs. 101,700 towards fine. It also created awareness through wall paintings, latti seati and signage boards etc,.
 
To achieve the target of “Swachh Hyderabad” under Swachh Bharat Mission, GHMC has constructed several categories of toilets across the city like BOT, Prefabricated, Sulabh, Engineering and SHE toilets (e-toilets).
 
As per the guidelines of SBM, the GHMC has constructed 2135 no’s of IHHLs (Individual Household Latrines) for the households who cannot afford to construct their own toilets. It has also constructed Community toilets wherever there was no specific amenity to construct IHHL.
 
The GHMC recently inaugurated modernized public toilets called LooCafe at Jubilee Hills. This type toilet facilitates like coffee shop, free Wi-Fi to public, feeding room to children and GHMC planning to install such type LooCafes at 150 locations 30 per each circle.
 
The GHMC has also gathered consents from about 259 Fuel Station and 257 restaurants across the city, for utilization of their toilets by public.
