Police foil Congress dharna; arrest Ponnam Prabhakar

​Hyderabad: Tension prevailed for some time when the police obstructed the Congress leaders from staging a dharna in front of Vemulavada Temple Development Authority (VTDA) located near Chief Minister Camp Office here on Wednesday. Congress senior leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar tried to stage a dharna, protesting against Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s attitude in implementing the assurances given by him for the development of the Vemulavada temple. 

In a dramatic manner, the Panjagutta police arrested Ponnam while assuring him that he would be taken to Chief Minister Camp office. Understanding the police plan, Ponnam tried to jump from the police vehicle on the road. At this juncture argument took place between the police and Ponnam.

Earlier, the police rounded up Ponnam’s residence located at Somajiguda but Ponnam came out from his residence along with Vemulavada Congress leader Adi Srinivas. The police immediately arrested Ponnam and shifted him to Panjagutta police station besides arresting the leaders coming from Vemulavada.
