Congress slams civic body’s high-handedness
Warangal: District Congress Committee president Nayini Rajender Reddy has criticised the Mayor and officials of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) for their vindictive approach towards a priest.
Referring to the demolition of the compound wall of the house of Shankaraiah, the priest at Padmakshi temple, he accused the GWMC of using coercive measures against the priest. It’s learnt that the priest moved the court and secured an injunction order to stop the GWMC’s proposed developmental activity at a site that was already earmarked for the construction of a Veda Patashala.
Reddy, who visited priest’s residence here on Thursday, said that the civic body is using coercive measures. The civic body, which already demolished the compound wall, is threatening to raze the priest’s house citing illegal, he alleged.
He said that while Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao himself is promising to help the poor Brahmins, it was unfortunate that the GWMC is showing its vindictive approach towards the priest. Reddy threatened to launch an agitation if the authorities continue their high-handedness against Shankaraiah.
