Hanamkonda: Rich tributes were paid to noted poet and Padma Bhushan Gurram Jashuva on the occasion of his 47th death anniversary. Speaking at a remembrance meeting at the SDLCE of Kakatiya University, the All India University Employees Association vice-president Pulla Srinivas recalled the yeomen services rendered by Jashuva for the upliftment of the distressed sections.

”His literary works reflected the difficulties faced by the dalits besides rebellion against the malady of untouchability prevailing in the society,” Srinivas said. Jashuva’s Gabbilam (1941), which is regarded as his best work, is parallel to that of Mahakavi Kalidasa’s Megha Sandesham’s popularity, he said, stating that Jashuva's choice of the bat is significant in reflecting the misery of dalits in those days.

SC and ST Employee Association president Kotte Bhaskar, who presided over the meeting, said that Jashuva was instrumental in raising social consciousness amongthe dalits. Dr Ephraim Raj, Manda Samson, Damera Prakash, K Venkat Narsaiah, K Chiranjeevi and B Prabhakar were among others present.
