Call to increase food grain production
Bhupalpally: District Collector D Amay Kumar stressed the need for increasing the production of pulses, millets and other food grains. Speaking at the district unit meeting of the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) here on Wednesday, he told the officials to focus on increasing the cultivated area in the region.
“There was a dire necessity to increase the production of food grains in accordance with the growing needs of the population,” he said, referring to the directions of the NFSM. He said that the district is lagging in the cultivation of paddy, pulses, millets etc.
He said that the NFSM is providing Rs 2.34 crore to improve the food grains production in the district. He told the officials to encourage farmers for taking up horticultural crops.
He told the officials to identify two villages with lowest rainfall to promote dairy, horticultural crops and poultry industries. Krishi Kalyan Yozna special officer Ponnu Swamy and NFSM coordinator G Sarangapani were among others present.
In another meeting, the Collector assured of providing house sites to those people of Madhavaraopalle who are losing their land to Singareni 8Incline coal mining.
He said that layout is ready and the beneficiaries will be provided with land pattas on August 2. The house sites will be allotted to beneficiaries through pick of draw. SCCL General Manager Guravaiah and RDO Brahmachary were among others present.
