Hyderabad: Former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Friday alleged that the NDA government at the Centre indulged in a big scam worth Rs 40,000 crore for the purchase of Rafale fighter jets.  Addressing the media, he said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had blown Bofors guns issue out of proportions.

However, the Supreme Court had given clean chit to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Citing the statement of Union Defense Minister Nirmala Sitaraman that the France government wanted to keep the details of the Rafale purchase a secret, he said that there was no need to keep the price of the fighters a confidential one.

He questioned entrusting the fighter jet project to a company being owned by Mukesh Ambani which does not have any experience in that field. He said that the Congress workers would take the Rafale scam into the people in a big way.

The former MP said that the NDA government was mired in scams and it is being supported by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). He said that they would see the end of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The TRS had been playing a double game on the issues of giving special category status to Andhra Pradesh. Its dubious stand was exposed as its MPs abstained from voting in the no confidence motion against the Centre.
