Centre to pick staff for AIIMS Bibinagar

Update: 2018-07-31 05:30 IST

Hyderabad: Recruitment of 873 posts, including doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, technicians by Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), keeping in mind the 800-bed Bibinagar facility, is likely to be scrapped in the wake of Centre’s fresh decision to establish All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in that location.

The present NIMS Bibinagar will make way for the prestigious AIIMS that will be entirely under the control of Union Health Ministry, right from appointment of staff to taking care of administration and running of the institution, with no role, whatsoever, of the Telangana government in it.

Hence there is no point in the government going ahead with the recruitment process which it announced eight months ago when there was no talk of AIIMS in Telangana, in general and NIMS Bibinagar, in particular, would be the government's preference for establishing the national institution.
It may be mentioned here that GO-176 was issued on November 28, 2017 for creation of 873 posts (425 posts in phase-1 and 448 posts in phase-2 for NIMS Bibinagar.

The Health department was told to obtain concurrence of Finance department before initiating measures to fill up the posts. This was followed by another GO-59 issued on May 23, 2018 directing NIMS administration to fill 399 posts through Department Selection Committee.

However, with the government seriously lobbying for AIIMS at NIMS Bibinagar location, this recruitment drive was put on hold and no further steps have been taken until this date. A Central delegation visited the Bibinagar site, proposed by Telangana for AIIMS, towards end of May and gave its approval recently after two months.

With suspense on whether NIMS Bibinagar location would be okayed for AIIMS ending recently, uncertainty over large-scale recruitment of posts more or less has ended. According to a former NIMS director it is unlikely that NIMS administration would go ahead with the earlier announced for recruitment. Vacancies in NIMS Panjagutta, if any, are not in big number, the expert pointed out.

Recruitment blues
