Karimnagar: Praising the members of self-help groups (SHG) for successfully running the Bathukamma Mess, set up by them, District Collector Devasena said that women must come forward to start such business, taking inspiration from Bathukamma Mess.

The Collector on Tuesday visited Bathukamma Mess, started by 19 women of SHG on Women’s Day this year in Peddapalli, with the cooperation from DRDA Project Director and SBI Bank Manager Srinivas Kashyap.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Devasena said the 19 women of SHG took Rs 5 lakh loan from SBI to start the mess and repaid the
loan within four months after doing a business of more than Rs 10 lakh till date.

To help the women stand on their legs, the government is taking up several measures. 15 advanced sewing machines were distributed to SHG women  and a small scale industry was established in Kamanpur mandal and a unit for manufacturing napkins for low cost of Rs 2 was established through SHGs under self-employment scheme.

Training programmes were organised for women to start small scale and medium scale industries under self-employment. So that they can establish small units and even can provide employment to other women also.

Women had played key role in preparing seed balls and shooting them into the forest areas. About 40 per cent of more rainfall occurred in the district during this year due to which many tanks were filled with water. Later, Collector Devasena had lunch with the members of Bathukamma Mess.
