Mala Mahanadu Chalo Delhi programme on August 8

Khammam:  Telangana Mala Mahanadu (TMM) district unit president Kandula Upendar here on Tuesday appealed to the people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes  to participate in large numbers in the ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme on August 8 in protest against the apex court judgment on SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act-1989.

The TMM activists released a poster of ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme and held a meeting under the leadership of Jonnalagadda Naveen at the TMM office here. Speaking at the meeting, Upendar said the Protection of Civil Rights Act -1955 was enacted to prevent attacks on the people belonging to the weaker sections. Later, it was changed into SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act-1989, he said.

In protest against the verdict given by the Supreme Court on March 20, several Dalit groups along with people’s organisations took out a massive rally. Eleven persons also died in the agitation, he said.

He demanded that the government take initiative to make a submission in the apex court against the verdict. TMM activists Konakanchi Mahesh, Chilutamalli Sundar Rao, M Prasad, B Ramu, Rama Krishna, A Eshwar and S Veerabhadram were present at the programme.
