Farmers uproot crops, threaten suicide
Nagarkurnool: The farmers of Ambatipally village of Lingala village under Achampet constituency in Nagarkurnool district expressed anger over the irrigation authorities for not releasing water to 14th branch canal from Kotta Cheruvu Lake in the village.
Over this, the aggrieved farmers uprooted their own maize crop and staged a protested in front of grama panchayati office showing the damaged crop because of lack of irrigation water. “The authorities are showing partiality and have not released water to the 14th branch canal because of which we have lost our crops and incurred heavy financial losses,” said a protesting farmer of Ambatipally village.
The farmers further threatened that if the concerned Irrigation officials do not respond to their protest, then they would stage a protest in front of the mandal revenue office and later will lay siege to the District Collector office.
“If no official responds to our woes, we have no other option but to commit suicide. We are planning to stage a protest in front of the collectorate soon and bring our problem to the notice of the Collector so that immediate steps are taken to save the farmers from further loss,” informed another farmer.
“Even if the Collector fails to respond than we will all commit suicide in front of the District Collectorate. Only officials will be responsible for the consequences,” observed another protester.
