Warangal gears up for Kanti Velugu

Warangal: Ensure everything in place for the launch of Kanti Velugu, the ambitious eye screening programme to ensure healthy vision for all the people, on August 15, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari told the officials of the Urban and Rural districts. He reviewed Kanti Velugu, Haritha Haram and Rythu Bima programmes here on Thursday.

He said that the government had released Rs 51.71 crore for Kanti Velugu programme for the conduct of eye screening tests in 250 towns across the State. As many as 300 eye screening tests would be conducted in each centre every day.

“Telangana is the only State in the country to implement such a huge initiative like ‘Kanti Velugu’,” Srihari said, terming it as the brainchild programme of the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao.  

Eye testing to 3.50 crore people is not all that easy, he said, stating that they had pressed in 799 field teams for the purpose. Referring to the Haritha Haram, he told the officials to focus on block plantation and social forestry. Warangal should clinch first spot in the State, instructing the officials to take up plantation drive on a massive note. He told the officials to gear up for the distribution of Rythu Bima bonds from August 15.

Zilla Parishad chairperson G Padma urged the officials to work with utmost integrity to ensure the fruits of welfare schemes to all 
the needy. Mayor Nannapaneni Narender said that efforts are on to turn Warangal into a green city. “We have made planned to plant 12 lakh saplings in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation,” he added.

Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Kakatiya Urban Development Authority Chairman Marri Yadava Reddy, Urban District Collector Amrapali Kata, Rural District Collector M Haritha and Municipal Commissioner VP Gautham were among others present.
