TSTDC to organise Heritage Walk today

Hanamkonda: In a bid to create awareness of various historical and heritage sites in the urban district and educate the people on the need to preserve these sites, Tourism Department to organise a ‘Heritage Walk’ at the Warangal Fort of the Kakatiya dynasty.

District Collector Amrapali Kata said the initiative is to promote the various tourism destinations thereby to attract the visitors. “The Heritage Walk which begins at the mud fort (west entrance) pass through various historical sites before culminating at the Keerti Thoranams,” she said.

She said that Warangal has a host of historical temples, heritage structures and laidback destinations besides mini zoo, regional science centre that have potential to draw tourist footfall.

Against this backdrop, the administration has rolled out a tourism calendar which also includes different adventure sports to attract the youths, Amrapali said, referring to the events such as rock climbing at Ursu Gutta in the city and Kothakonda under Bheemadevarapally, night camping in the Devunur hillocks etc.

She said that Gundu Cheruvu (tank) near Warangal Fort is ideal for organising Kayaking which the locals had never experienced before. The Heritage Walk that begins at 7 am on Saturday will be led by the Municipal Commissioner V P Gautham.
