TRS MP raises pitch for separate Ministry for BCs

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday demanded that the Centre to constitute BC Ministry exclusively for the Backward Caste communities apart from providing Constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).

Addressing a press conference here at the TRS Legislature Party office, Bhongir MP B Narsaiah Goud said the TRS had several times demanded Constitutional status to NCBC and the State Assembly had also sent a resolution to the Centre regarding the same. Goud said he had written at least 1,000 times for providing Constitutional status to BC Commission.

He further said that the Bill pertaining to providing Constitutional status to BC Commission was approved in Lok Sabha in 2017 but it was sent back again because of the conspiracies of the Congress in Rajya Sabha. He asked the Congress not to stall the Bill in Rajya Sabha and warned of dire consequences if it did so. Goud lashed out at the main Opposition party stating that the Congress had become a tail party in many States in the country and if they resorted to oppose the Bill, the BCs would cut even the tail.

He said that the Congress had been the main enemy of the BCs and it had been doing injustice to the community since Independence. There had been no BC census since 1935 and the TRS government was the only government in the country, which took up survey of BCs, he said, adding that the BCs constituted 52 per cent of the population as per the intensive household survey. He alleged that successive Congress governments ignored the suggestion of Dr B R Ambedkar to provide reservations to BCs in economic, education and political sectors.

The TRS leader said he would be contesting for Lok Sabha even in the 2019 elections. He said there was no truth in the rumours that he would be going for Assembly constituency. “A few newspapers are writing that I will be contesting from an Assembly constituency by giving the names of the constituencies as if they are the ones who will distribute the B forms,” said Narsaiah Goud.

He asked the newspapers to stop speculating about him changing constituency.  Narsaiah Goud said that his aim was to perform the first surgery in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to be set up in his constituency Bhongir.
