TS Govt will revive lost glory of handloom: Eatala
Karimnagar: “Handloom profession is one of the most respectable among other professions. The earlier governments never helped the handloom workers. It is the TRS government, which is striving hard to support and help the handloom workers and to bring the lost glory to the profession by introducing various welfare schemes,” stated Finance Minister E Rajender.
He attended as the chief guest at a programme oraganised by Handloom and Textile department on the occasion of National Handloom Day at the collectorate conference hall in Karimnagar on Tuesday.
The Minister said that the weavers and their unions actively participated in the separate Telangana movement. After the formation of Telangana State, the TRS government has implemented many schemes for the welfare of handloom workers.
The Minister said that the government has sanctioned funds for the handloom societies for construction of sheds and also gave 40 per cent subsidy on equipment required for weaving. The government also waived off loans amounting Rs one lakh for the wellbeing of handloom workers.
The government also sanctioned funds for the construction of society buildings for handloom workers in the united Karimnagar district. Several welfare schemes introduced by the government such as distribution of six kgs of rice to every member present in a family, cheques under Kalyana Laxmi and Shaadi Mubarak also will be implemented for handloom workers, said the Minister.
Rajender assured the handloom workers that he would take various issues which the handloom workers have been facing to the notice of IT Minister KT Rama Rao and will try to solve them as early as possible. They were also assured that loans will be sanctioned to them for establishing small scale industries through Backward Class department.
Later, the Minister handed over loan cheques to Handloom Cooperate Societies and felicitated aged weavers on the occasion. He presented mementos to the students, who won in the competitive tests organised on the occasion of National Handloom Day.
MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, Additional Director of Handloom and Textile Department M Venkatesham, MPP Vasala Ramesh, Khadi Regional Officer Satish, Padmashali Sangham president Methuku Sathyam were present.
